Since the catastrophic failure of the GAllatin rotor in 1974, the utility industry has made a concerted effort to mitigate further occurrences throught he development and use of sophisticated inspection and analysis tools. Starting in the mid 1980's the inspection of turbine-generator equipment has been performed in-house using a computer based data acquisition system. This approach has led to reduced inspection times and longer re-inspection intervals in support of our objective to reduce net operating cost for Baltimore Gas & Electric.
