Like in many other industries, technical developments in the refractories industry with regard to machinery have been coined by the ever increasing quality standards asked for by the refractory producers. Whereas in the past such activities usually concentrated on improving individual machines, nowadays more and more emphasis is put on the interaction of complete plants and machinery sections. Automation and improved productivity came along with Total Quality Management. With the latter not only individual mixers or presses, for instance, can be kept on a high technical level but it also calls for the expertness on inter-links between individual machines and on logging of operational data.
