Based on the reaction between O'-Sialon-ZrO_2 and Al_2O_3-anti-alumina buildup properties of O'-Sialon-ZrO_2-C materials were investigated and compared with that of the Alumina-Graphite material. The results show that the anti-alumina buildup properties of O'-Sialon-ZrO_2-C materials are superior to that of the Alumina-Graphite material. Dispersed alumina in the liquid steel reacts with O'-Sialon to form a low-melting glass, which is eroded away by the molten steel. The slag resistance of the material is inferior to the Al_2O_3-C material, but, with increase of ZrO_2 content in the material, the slag resistance of the material is improved.
