This report addresses alternative techniques for cleanign wells by using less-hazardous,lower-dose passive chemcials,thereby allowing the well pump to remain intact during remediaiton.Washing bio-contaminated wells with passive chemcials (organic acids,sequestering agents,dispersants),prior to shock chlorination,increasd well production and water quality after 24-48 hour periods of recirculation,soakign,or high volume back-flushing into the well.In addition to generic forms of orgnaic acids (glycolic,citric,oxalic),polyelectrolytes,and inorganic sequestering agents (polyphosphates),dozens of specialty blends are listed by ANSI/NSF for use in well remediation.A comparative listing of the generic well cleaning chemcials was prepared to assist well owners and contractors involved with selecting well remediation chemcals.
