Using chemical characterization of humic substances to predict disinfection by-product formation

Natural organic matter (NOM),the complex matrix of organic material present in naturla waters,can be divided into humic and non-humic fractions.The humic fraction is more hydrophobic in character and comprises humic and fulvic acids.The non-humic fraction is more hydrophilic and ocmprises hydrophilic acids,proteins,amino acids and carbohydrates among other organic compounds.
