H-Axis clothes washers: water energy savings cost-effective investments and market penetration

Clothes washers are a significant consumer of water and electricity.The U.S. Department of Energy (DOE)has developed clothes washer efficiency standards in the past and is currently considering more stringent regulations.High efficiency machines,often referred to as "horizontal-axis" (h-axis) have been used successfully in Europe for several years and would meet the standards being proposed.Several U.S. applicance manufactures are now producing high-efficiency machines,but distribution is not yet widespread.
