Earthquakes are not generally taken into account in the current design of earth structures in Japan. Earthquake resistance of road embankments, however, is now being considered because, given recent disasters caused by earthquakes, earthquake resistance of embankment in civil engineering is necessary. In this study, centrifuge model tests were conducted to obtain data for the examination of earthquake resistance measures through the clarification of road embankment behavior during earthquakes. These tests clarified relationships between such factors as height of embankments, slope gradient of embankments and moisture content of embankment material, and embankment behavior during earthquakes.
