The authors have been using powder injection molding technology to develop stainless steel and titanium parts for specific applications that require controlled mechanical and physical properties. Properties required include porosity, permeability, corrosion resistance, strength, toughness and, where applicable, mechanical properties. Specific applications selected for discussion include a titanium filter, a specialized stainless steel magnetic sensor, a titanium catheter connector, and a titanium side port boby. Contamination levels and sintered density resulting from processing of the titanium filter will be discussed. The porosity, corrosion resistance, tensile properties, and permeability will be documented. The magnetic stainless steel pole housing will be shown. Magnetic properties and corrosion resistance of the pole housing will be documented. The titanium catheter connector and the side port body will be shown. Contamination levels and control of the sintered density will be discussed. The influence of these properties on corrosion resistance and toughness will be discussed.
