In this paper, we presnet a MPEG-2 research platform, which is developed to design, analyze, ad evaluaate the performance of MPEG-2 encoding algorithm. Basically, the research platform consists of real time compression hardware and associated applciation. The hardware is responsible for the real time encoding of video and audio information, and the application is used to modify parameters defiend in MPEG-2 in order to achieve the required image quality. The otustanding feature is that it can complete the encoding phase in real time.
