Since the early days of papermaking, printing paper grades have demanded protection against mechanical stress during storage and transportation. Kraft/testliner wrapping applied by a roll wrapping machine is an inevitable part of this protection process. Due to the wrapping machine's distance from the paper machine, roll wrapping is often thought of as merely an extra cost. The fact is, however, that wrapping not only preserves the value of the paper roll but also provides an additional global marketing tool when a roll is delivered unharmed in an attractive package to customers the world over. At the wrapping machine, the wrapping and labelling processes are typically monitored by an operator. This presentation focuses primarily on options for reducing operating costs through the use of industrial robots.
