The Mexican Institute of Water Technology, (IMTA) carried out an assessment of industrial and municipal discharges to the Cazones River, in 1996, The main objective of this study was to quantify the reduction of pollutants in discharges to meet the new water standard, NOM-001-ECOL/96, and recommend treatments that could permit compliance with the standards foreseen for 2010.
