Testing the performance of multiple TCP/IP stacks

TCP/IP performance varies widely among stacks, operating systems, and hardware platforms. We describe our experiences with TCP and UDP performance on eigth operating systems, ranging from Windows 3.11 to UNIX. We address issues such as performance differences between TCP and UDP, troughput and response time differences among different operating systems and Ethernet speeds, and how a programs' use of Scockets calls can affect performance.
