Historically, e have characterized of tape cartridge use for a single customer at a time. In this study, we use exploratory data analyis to compare and contrast tape cartridge use by many customers. We currently have 20~+ sets of customer SMF data for analysis. The large set of customer data will allow us to group the workloads several clusters. The classification and characterization will have the effect of having the customer's SMF data tell us how they are using tape caridges. This information can be used as input to architecture, design, and testing groups.
