Asynchronous transfer mode-the other ATM A case study in network management

As the demand for network bandwidth increases, more and more organizations are looking at Asynchronous Transfer Mode (ATM) as the technology to satisfy that demand. While native ATM to the desktop is probabily years from deneral depolyment, many organizations are implementing ATM switches to provide high speed wide-area services. Once these switches are depolyed, Network managers are faced with the challenge of managing these devices. The challenge is not so much one of caring for a new box in the network. The challenge is in manageing the `serivce' that the box provides.
