Fieldbus is an all-digital, serial, two-way communication system which interconnects field equipment such as sensors, actuators and controllers. And it is also a Local Area Network for field instruments with built-in capability to distribute control applications across the network. Fieldbus is equipped with a CPU which provides such intelligent functions as self-diagnostics and multivariable measurement. Field instruments are transformed into information devices for measurement, control and operation, and can operate as standalone units or communicate on a peer-to-peer basis on the control network.
