Nagoya is well-known as one of the hottest cities of Japan in summer. There are few water fronts familiar with the people. On the other hand, Nagoya has been developed along the east-weat city axis. A new urban deisgn method from the viewpoint of climate and attracting north-south axis is ocnsisdered to the desired for Nagoya city. The authors proposed an environmental planning based on new urban design concept which introduced the effect of sea breeze blowing along canals in Nagoya. For the first time, a sea breeze and climate in summer were observed along the canals. Effective distance from the sea and the cooling effect of the sea breeze on urban temperature was analyzed. On the basis of the above observation, the following environmnetal planning "Wind Trail Project in Nagoya" was planned. The canals were utilized as the trail on which sea breeze blows towards the center of Nagoya. Water sewage treatment plant sites located along the canals were decided as re-development sites. Energy recycle system, transportation of wastes and other environmental facilities were planned along the canals and at the development sites.
