Read it and reap: the benefits of Java search applications

摘要

Java offers a number of key technical capabilities and benefits to users and systems administrators, including increased computing speed, greatly reduced administration requirements and a high degree of functionality. This paper introduces the Java language, discusses the functionality of real Java applications, and addresses benefits to the digital library and the future of database searching specifically. Additionally, Ovid Technologies' approach to Java development and a Java-based search interface is examined.
