Micro structure formation and transfiguration of progressively hydrating cement in the concrete specimens were observed to obtain proper understandings for the development of mechanical properties of structural concrete.The formation of crystallization system is recognized with morphological aspects of cement hydrates in each age through the test The aspects of hydrating cement can be classified into two categories. The one is concerned with crystal growth of so called the hydration products, which can be characterized by their size, shape, density and so on. The other is called in this paper "collective forms" which are the characters concerning to the cement particle gathering.To estimate the progress of cement hydration, some formulae were newly derived for the powder method X-ray diffraction analysis. Cement hydration rate H was estimated for each specimen immediately after the mechanical tests had been executed.The observed results of SEM microscopy were compared with mechanical properties in reference to the estimated hydration rate. The results indicate that the morphological features principally relate to the mechanical properties are the "collective forms" of cement particle gatherings. This fact will suggest certain significance of the transformation of cement particle itself caused by the hydration.
