摘要

Mould level fluctuations at the meniscus influence the surface quality of the billet. These fluctuations, detected by the Co60 mould level detector, have been digitalized and presented as a level fluctuation number per billet cast. The influence of the tundish flow pattern and the fall-height between tundish and mould level has been investigated. A relationship between the fluctuation number and surface defects has been found. The fluctuation number can be a suitable tool for controlling and further optimizing the billet casting process.
