Longer life in RH with oxygen top blowing system

No. 4 RH-degassing unit at Mizushima Works, Kawasaki Steel Corporation, was put into operation in January 1991 so as to ensure stable mass production of ultra-low carbon steel (ULCS) and establish degassing system for all steel. No. 4 RH is equipped with the top oxygen blowing function called the KTB system, developed by Kawasaki Steel. KTB system acceerates the decarburization reaction in the initial stage of decarburization by blowing oxygen onto the surface of the molten steel under vacuum, and also reduces the converter tapping temperature by the heat compensation effect of post-combustion. These functions in KTB system make it possible to extend the campaign life of the converter and ladle.
