Traditionally the power systems on Naval vessels have been operated using simple, predominantly manual controls to ensure reliability and security of supply. On commercial vessels the reliability and security of supply are equally important, however these vessels are ofen fitted with complex Electrical Power Control and Monitoring Systems (EPCAMS). These automatic systems offer benefits which include a reduction in manning levels and improved utilisation of the available generators.
