Planning for coordinate program for expansion of proton and ion beam therapy in japan

Charged particle therapy world-wide has been performed for more than 40 years with proton beams and for more than 20 years with ion beams, and the number of the patients is steadily increasing. In Japan there are two operating facilities; Natonal Insitute of Radiological Sciences for heavy-ion and proton theraphy and Tsukuba University for proton therapy. A new proton facility is under consitruction at National Cancer Center, and funding at the Hyogo prefecture has been just approved to build a dedicated facility for proton and carbon-ion therapy. These are several other plannings for construction of a hospital-based proton facility with financial support form the Science and Technology Agency in Japan.
