2 MeV linear accelerator for industrial applications

RPC Industries has developed a high average power scanned electron beam linac system for medium energy inustrial processing, such as in-line sterilization. The parameters are: electron energy 2 MeV; average beam current 5.0 mA; and scanned width 0.5 meters. The control system features data logging and a man-Machine Interface system. The accelerator is vertically mounted, the system height above the floor is 3.4 m, and the footprint is 0.9 X 1.2 meter~2. The typical processing cell inside dimensions are 3.0m by 3.5 m by 4.2 m high with concerete side walls 0.5m thick above ground level. The equal exit depth dose is 0.73 gm cm~(-2). Additional topical that will be reported are: throughput, measurements of dose vs depth, dose uniformity across the web, and beam power by calorimater and magnetic deflection of the beam.
