Tape Casting of Diatomite for Filtration Applications

摘要

The present work reports on the use of different processing techniques starting from aqueous colloidal suspensions, like tape and slip casting, to produce porous layers of diatomite. Microstructural characterization of sintered bodies will be revealed, and the amount and size distribution of pores will be related to the relevant characteristics for filtration applications, such as the physical permeability and mechanical strength. For comparison, membranes prepared by a direct consolidation technique using starch as consolidator and pore former were also prepared. as an alternative way to control the final morphology diatomite layers.
