Petroleum-contaminated soils may be treated by a variety of methods. Many of these methods are appropriate for the soluble petroleum constituents, but the more insoluble compounds, often associated with old or highly weathered contamination are resistant ro remediation. While these petroleum constituents may have little risk because of their limited mobility, it is still desirable to remove these or reduce their levels because of their hazardous nature.
