A visualization method is developed for researching the secondary flow in curved pipes. In this method, nylon particles suspended in water flowing through a pipe are illuminated by a sheet of strobo light and their paths are recorded photographically. This method is applied for fully-developed steady, oscillating and pulsatingflows in a circular curved pipe with a curvature radius ratio of 7.6. The experimental results of flow patterns and velocity fields are in good agreement with numericla ones. The present visualization method is confirmed to be effective for the velocity measuremdent of the secondary stream induced in curved pipe flows.
