This papr presents a brief development and results obtained when applying a gain scheduling Model Predictive Control (MPC) strategy to the control of the outlet temperature of a parabolic trough solar collector field which supply energy to a Multi-Effect Desalination Plant. The control scheme presented here can cope with disturbances acting on the system, different operating points and antiresonance characteristics of the field, which usually originate an unacceptable oscillatory behaviour when the plant is controlled with classical fixed parameters controllers. The performance of the control scheme and the problems encountered are dealt with and illustrated by plant results.
