A study of the effects of cationic polymers in flotation deinking showed that float cell accept water turbidity can be substantially reduced without negatively affecting other operating results. Calcium levels, shear rates, polymer dose rates, sheet brightness, fiber yield variation with polymer type and surfactant types were considered. Data were obtained from both laboratory and pilot scale experimentation. Mixing conditions were found to be the main source of variation between laboratory and pilot scale results.
