Next generation, high-speed wireless networks are expected to support multimedia traffic (video, voice and data). In such systems, it is necessary to provide quality-of-service (QOS) guarantees for the multimedia applications. In this paper, an adaptive resource allocation algorithm which can provide the QOS guarantees for the multimedia traffic is proposed. The proposed algorithm provides the QOS guarantee by reserving resources in cells surrounding the cell where a connection is established. To evaluate the proposed algorithm, a simulator for a cellular wireless network is built. This simulator allows simulation of a realistic cellular environment where the net-work consists of a large number of cells and mobile users with various mobility profiles. Using this simulator, it is shown that the propose algorithm provides small connection dropping probability and achieves high bandwidth efficiency by adjusting the amount of reserved bandwidth based on the net-work load conditions.
