Finish applications on bleached and scoured c otton in improving nonwoven processing

Bleached and soured cottons present difficulties in sequent processing into nonwovens. These difficulties can be minimized by the addition of some lubricant/antistatic finishers on the fibers. Four commerical finishes were studied in improving the nonwoven processing. One silicone-based softener (Ucarsil~( direct R ) EPS) was found most effective. Fourier transform Infrared Spectroscopy (FTIR) was used in this study to determine the distribution and the amount of finish applied to the cotton web and to study the physical and chemical interaction between finish and fiber.
