Effects of mechanical stress on the remodeling of tendons and ligaments have been extensively studied using in vivo animal models. However, the mechanisms of the remodeling cannot be elucidated well by in vivo experiments. To obtain information on the mechanism of tissue remodeling, in vitro culture studies are useful. In the present study, we have carried out tensile tests of collagen fascicles cultured under cyclic stress condition and determined the relation between applied stress and mechanical properties.
