Along with the increasing number of wheelchair users, it has been noted that the prolonged use of manual wheelchair may cause upper extremity overuse injuries such as carpal tunnel syndrome, shoulder rotator cuff tears, etc. Several attempts have been made to study wheelchair propulsion for all or any one of the wrist, elbow, and shoulder joints by adopting two- or three-dimensional kinematic analysis techniques and/or stationary ergonomic devices. Since wheelchair propuslion is a non-planar, non-stationary three-dimensional motion, simultaneous three-dimensional joint kinematics and kinetics measurements have to be done.
