Bone can regenerate: form and function can be restored to a level indistinct from that derived embryologically. Surgeons have exploited the regenerative property of bone for over three hundred years, with the first reported incident in 1668. It is now commonplace for clinicians to repair and regenerate the body's 80 axial bones and 126 appendicular bones. Traditional therapies include autografts, allogeneic banked preparations, laboratory-modified bone products, and laboratory-engineered products. It is this last group that will be the focus for this presentation.
