The Union Pacific Oxidation Test has been used to model the chemistry of stressed medium speed diesel crankease engine oils with respect to their filterability. Results show that soot is a critical component for filter blinding to occur and that blindign is probably related to the degradation of the dispersant of the additive package. Data is presented which relates this model to a widespread field filter blinding and engine sludge problems.
