Bellows are now widely used as the element of expansion joints in heat transfer systems or piping systems in various plants. However, bellows of conventional types often show unstable displacements between neighboring convolutions by the effect of internal pressue or by cyclic plastic loadings. Such uneven deformations have been prevented by cast metal ring spacers inerted between each convolution of th bellow. But this solution cuases a large increase in weight of the total joint system.
