Biomedical Function imaging obtained from Positron Emission Tomography (PET) has been playing an important role in modern biomedical research and clinical diagnosis. However, for dynamic study with PET, empirical image sampling schedule is currently used, which requires to take large amounts of images and may not provide maximum information for the study. In this paper, we propose the theory for optimal sampling schedule design for tracer kinetic modeling based on continuous data acquisition and time accumulated counts measurements, and explain why the parameter estimation accuracy can be retained when only the minimum number of images are recorded.
