Compatibilization of Poly(ethylene terephthalate)/Polypropylene Blends

Poly(ethylene terephthalate) and polypropylene (PET/PP) were compounded in a single screw extruder, pelletized, and injection molded into mechanical test specimens according to ASTM specifications. Adding a maleic anhydride modified PP, Eastman Chemical's EPOLENE E-43, improved the strength and stiffness of the blends at the expense of toughness. E-43 was found to be an effective lubricant in improving the processibility of the blends.
