Isomerization of n-pentane on SO_4~(2-)/Fe_2O_3,SO_4~(2-)/TiO_2 and SO_4~(2-)/ZrO_2 was studied using a pulse reactor. The activity selectivity and acid strength were determined under different reaction conditions, and relation between the activity, selectivity and acid strength was investigated. The results show that the acid strength of catalyst is higher, the activity is higher, but the isomerization selectivity is lower. The isomerization selectivity is higher than 99% for SO_2~(2-)/Fe_2O_3 preparation at all calcined temperature range (573K-973K). The SO_4~(2-)/Fe_2O_3 is an excellent catalyst for isomerization of compared with SO_4~(2-)/TiO_2 and SO_4~(2-)/ZrO_2. The rate constants and activation energy of pentane isomerization reaction on the catalysts are also calculated.
