This paper investigates the influence of ballast fouling on the resilient behaviour of the ballast pavement layer. The resilient behaviour is simulated in the laboratory by means of dynamic triaxial tests. The stress dependent nature of the ballast layer is quantified by means of the relationship between bulk stress and resilient modulus. This relationship changes with an increase in the degree of fouling. The effects of the degree of fouling on other track structure indicators are also quantified by means of the Geotrack program.
