A methodology for the identification of noise source contributions to pass-by noise of vehicles has been developed, called Airborne Source Quantification.The methodology has been applied on the exterior noise emission of truck during a stationary in-door imitation of a pass-by test. The identified noise emission showed good agreement with the directly measured noise.The procedure requires a large amount of accurate acoustic transfer function measurements, but no physical isolation is required and a large amount of information is obtained. It has the capability of operational source identification and measurements from normal vehicles in full operation and can be combined with component testbed measurements for optimisation.
