Activated brown coal coke for flue gas clean-up reacts with the oxygen contained in the flue gas under operating conditions. The oxidation heat released increases the filter bed temperature, which in case of heat accumulation may even induce spontaneous ignition of the activated coke fill. The newly developed mathematical model of the self-heating process taking place in a moving bed filter allows predicting the time-related courses of temperature and O_2-concentration along the filter axis, also if gas velocity is extremely low.
