Analysis of the liquefied and solubilized coals by the action of microorganisms

The analysis of liquefied/solubilized products from lignite by microorganisms showed some alterations in the chemical composition with regard to the original coal. Noteworthy, a reduction in the average molecular weight and an increase in the condensation index of humic acids derived from the liquid lignite were observed. These results could indicate that microorganisms degrade the humic acids to rend them more suitable as microbial nutrients. The observation that microorganisms could use humic acids as the only carbon source supported this supposition.
