South America (Colombia) owns a big microbial biodiversity, but rather unknown until today, therefore we intend to use native species to evaluate coal and heavy crude oil biological decomposition.Several species were collected in situ from decay trees, coal seams, insect exhubias and oil spillage.A preculture was performed and the most active species were isolated and conditioned to grow on poor medium culture and low rank coal. The strongest species were selected and applied to grow on coal samples in wet chamber. The samples were low rank coal, coal preswolled and extracted with tetrahydrofuran (THF). The observed grow was faster with the preswolled coal and the recovered mycelium was twice as bigger than the untreated coal. Another interesting finding was that the preadapted fungi on coal were the most active when they were innoculate on heavy crude oil samples. The most active fungi were identified as a basidiomycete; the second one correspond to an ascomycete, euascomycete.
