Commercially available MoS2, CoS and NiS particles were comminuted with a media-agitating mill for 10-50 hours and the catalytic activities of the milled particles on the hydrogenation of l-methylnaphthalene(1-MN) and coal liquefaction were investigated. The catalytic activities per weight of catalyst to hydrogenation by the milled metal sulfide particles were much higher than those of as-received particles. At the coal liquefaction the conversions of coal was a little higher in the case of milled metal sulfide particles than those in the case of as-received.
