The Enron debacle fits the theme of the 2002 DSI conference, “Decision Making in the Extended Enterprise.” Enron presents a classic case of poor choices and poor decision-making in the extended enterprise, which eventually led to business failure. The collapse of Enron appears to be due to a systemic failure of oversight on several fronts. This paper analyzes the causes contributing to the bankruptcy of Enron and discusses the implications of this scandal for corporate governance.
