SIX SIGMA QUALITY IMPROVEMENT: DEFINITION AND RESEARCH ISSUES PARTICIPANTS

Recent Implementation of Six Sigma by successful organizations such as General Electric, Citigroup and Amazon.com has created a lot of attention in the popular press. However, little is known in academia about how Six Sigma methods are being used and their impact on business results. This suggests an opportune area for future research. This workshop provides an initial definitional framework for Six Sigma by identifying critical elements in detail with the objective of stimulating further research. We also discuss the controversial question of what is new about Six Sigma and what is already known. Finally, we define further research topics in this emerging area of quality management. After an initial briefing, most of the session will be devoted to discussion.
