Identification of Factors Influencing the Facility Location Decision As a Measns of Focusing the National Marketing Strategy

This paper identifies the facotrs that influence the information flow of resources in terms of foreign facility locations and global sourcing. These factors can be used to evaluate the position of a country with repect to its ability to attract foreign resources and thus identify the most pertinent aspects in attracting foreign investors. By promoting these factors a country can improve its ability to attract firms into locating in or sourcing from their country and thus draw in foreign resources. These factors can be condensed into four main categories: 1) infrastructure, 2) production envirnment, 3) labor characteristics, and 4) government interaction. The literature also brought to light a fifth category which encompasses the internal factors of a company. This fifth category is the one area that a company cannot effect to encourage the flow of resources, however, it will be looked at as a means of categorizing companies in an effort to beeter focus the national marketing strategy. The ability and willingness of governments to attract foreign resources will be reliant on its ability to create a win-win situation for the company and the country.
