Die-cast aluminum alloy is an important industrial material used in the manufacture of various components. This alloy, however, contains many segregation layers as shown in Photograph 1, making the formation of anodic oxide film on the alloy difficult. The authors have investigated three new surface finishing methods for die-cast aluminum alloy. The methods are: (1) galvanizing method; (2) zinc diffusion method; and (3) a novel painting method.
