This paper presents a new method of recreating the generator electrical torque during power system disturbances using the measured generator terminal voltage and current singals. The proposed method takes into account the output active power, the armature loss and the change of the stator magnetic field energy. Analysis shows this method has high accuracy. Riccati transfer matrix is used to calculate shaft torques from the recreated generator electrical torque. It has quick solution speed and good numerical stability. Based on the above models, a simple and reliable turbine - generator shaft system torsional monitoring method is provided. In order to illustrate the efficiency of the proposed method and validate the software, a simulation example is given at the end of the paper.
