The optimal grid for the system of two-dimensional steady supersonic Euler equations is that composed of streamlines and their orthogonals. With the use of the recently developed shock-adaptive Godunov scheme the orthogonality of this flow-generated grid is preserved on both sides of a shock, resulting in the most robust, accurate and efficient scheme. In the case of three-dimensional flow, the optimal grid is also found to be the one compsed of stream surfaces and their orthogonals.
